Support CD-ROM - Media File Installation - v3.1

The following are the instructions for installing the multimedia support files/media files from the Support CD-ROM for Mastering CNC Lathes (MCLO), Mastering CNC Machining Centers (MCMO), and Precision Measurement for Machinists (PMMO). If your web connection is DSL or a dial up modem, you'll need to install the media files to review the course free samples and to take the course itself.

The instructions apply to each product regardless of any reference to one particular product.

The CD-ROM will autoplay when you put it into the CD-ROM drive. A splash screen with animation will appear and when it finishes, it will take you to a screen that gives you two choices, START MOVIE or SKIP MOVIE. The screen should look similar to the one shown to the right.
After the movie is done playing or if you skip the movie, you will see a screen similar to the one to the right. From this screen, you can check your computer settings, tryout some sample lessons and tests, review a lesson outline, or install the media files.

To make a selection, place your mouse over one of the tabs labeled "Check Computer", "Samples", "Lesson Outlines", or "Multimedia Support" then click on the blue link to proceed to that section.

To install the media files, place your mouse over the "Multimedia Support" tab and click on the blue link titled "Install the Multimedia Support Files".
Look at the information listed under "This Computer". It will indicate the version of Shockwave installed on your computer. If you do not have it already installed on your computer, you can choose to install it. If Shockwave is not already installed or is less than version 8, click on the INSTALL SHOCKWAVE button. This will automatically open up your Internet browser and take you to the Macromedia website from where you can download and install the Shockwave Player plugin.

If you already have Shockwave version 8 or above installed, click on the NEXT button at the bottom of the screen to take you to the next screen.
This screen gives you information regarding the use of the media files and instructions on how to install the the files on your hard drive OR use the files directly from the CD-ROM itself. It also provides you with information regarding the amount of hard drive space the media files will require and how much space is available on the drives installed in your computer.

Click on the INSTALL MEDIA FILES button to install the media from the Support CD-ROM to your computer's hard drive. If you wish to use the files from the CD-ROM, click NEXT.
Clicking on the INSTALL MEDIA FILES button automatically opens up the installer application. The opening screen of the installer application should look similar to the one to the right.

Follow the instructions to install the media files. Once the installation process has been completed, you will be taken back to the previous screen. Once the screen appears, click on the NEXT button to complete the process. If you QUIT or CANCEL at this time, the media files WILL NOT be available for the course.

The screen that appears gives you some information regarding the creation of a "Preferences" file that is needed by the MasterTask online courseware to use the media files either from the hard drive or the CD-ROM. Follow the instructions on this screen to create the "Prefs" file. Click the "Use Local (course) Files" to cause the course to use the files locally instead of trying to download the files over the internet.
Click the "Locate Media Files" to locate the folder where the installed files are located or to select the CD-ROM drive where the Support CD-ROM will be placed while working on the course.

Once the selections have been made above, clicking the NEXT button will automatically create the "Prefs" file, thus completing the installation process. If you click on the EXIT button, the Prefs file will NOT be created. You must click on the NEXT button for the "Prefs" file to be created.

If you already have QuickTime Player installed on your computer, you can now quit the application, otherwise follow the instuctions on the screen to install the QuickTime Player.
